Role Description

As a Pharmacy Manager (Pharmacist), you will work closely with a large multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients. You will play a key role in medication safety for residents in Supportive Living, Congregate Living, and Community Support Home living environments. You will have the opportunity to work with a team that prides itself in full scope practice, which includes the support of Regulated Pharmacy Technicians, to support and encourage a focus on clinical assessments and interventions by our pharmacists. You will work collaboratively with the Director of Pharmacy to ensure a positive workplace culture and safe and effective workplace practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • General pharmacist duties where required
  • Provide support to pharmacy staff as required to enable completion of all required tasks
  • Complete tasks and duties of pharmacist or other roles as required when necessary for staffing coverage
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration and communication within the multidisciplinary healthcare team (including but not limited to: nurses, healthcare aids, GPs, psychiatrists, mental health therapists, case managers) to develop and maintain strong partnerships
  • Utilize technology including live medication administration record systems to provide ongoing care to clients and support to their multidisciplinary care team
  • Ensure continuing care site processes and documentation meet regulatory compliance
  • Actively educate and support clients and continuing care staff while providing evidence-based direction to medication and health related needs and inquiries
  • Work in a team-based model to ensure the timely and accurate processing of medication orders when required
  • Ensure appropriate and complete documentation of all assessments, interventions, and clinical work
  • Conduct drug errors review process and monitor for trends
  • Participate in workflow review processes to achieve best practice and ensure efficient and effective processes in place
  • Participate in the development of Pharmacy Policies and Procedures, including development of Standard Operating Procedures for the pharmacy while ensuring compliance with ACP requirements
  • Monitor and review pharmacy policies, procedures, and practice to ensure compliance with ACP Standards of Practice
  • Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints and supply shortages
  • Assist in development and implementation of quality improvement strategies
  • Implement and monitor adherence to pharmacy technology best practices, including PacMed and PacVision maintenance
  • Participate in the planning and provision of off-site clinics (ie Influenza Vaccines, COVID-19 Vaccines, educational programs, etc)
  • Support new facility transition planning, implementation, and onboarding processes
  • Support the design, organization, and implementation of “Special Projects” as required
  • Supervise and provide guidance and direction to staff, and assign duties as required
  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate daily operations
  • Assist in inventory management to ensure adequate supply of medication and over-the- counter products as required
  • Support inventory control and annual or bi-annual inventory count processes
  • Reports to Director of Pharmacy

Requirements

  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the Alberta College of Pharmacists and proficient in the scope of practice of Pharmacists in Alberta (required)
  • Authorization to Administer Injections (required)
  • Additional Prescribing Authorization (preferred)
  • Continuing Care/Long Term Care experience (preferred)
  • Kroll experience (preferred)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
